For years, we bought free-range eggs at the supermarket — paying extra, imagining the hens roaming free on green pasture.
When we started raising hens ourselves, we discovered what “free-range” actually means under Australian law.
We felt misled. Not by any one person — by a system designed to let vague claims go unchallenged. Once we understood, we couldn’t keep buying that way.

We’re Nick and Ruth. We wanted food we could trust — food that tasted the way it should and did what good food is supposed to do for your family’s health. So we built the farm that produces it.
Today we farm 33 hectares on the Fleurieu Peninsula, raising pasture-raised hens and 100% grass-fed Speckle Park cattle using regenerative practices and complete transparency about every single step.
We didn’t set out to build a big operation. We set out to raise food we’d confidently feed our own children — and share it with families in our community who feel exactly the same way.
