Our Story

Myponga River Farm began with a simple idea:

Food should be raised honestly.

We wanted to build a farm that cared for the land, respected the animals and provided nourishing food for families in our local community.

We Thought “Free-Range” Meant Pasture-Raised Too

For many families today, buying good food feels confusing.

Labels sound reassuring, yet often tell only part of the story. “Free-range” eggs, “natural”, “farm fresh” — it can be hard to know what any of it actually means anymore.

For years, we bought free-range eggs ourselves believing we were making the best choice possible for our family.

We assumed “free-range” hens spent their days outdoors on green pasture.

It wasn’t until we began raising hens ourselves that we discovered how different pasture-raised farming really is.

We realised many hens labelled “free-range” may still spend very limited time outdoors, let alone on pasture.

We felt misled.

And once we understood the difference, we couldn’t ignore it.

So We Started Farming Differently

We wanted food raised differently — food we genuinely trusted to feed our own family.

So we started farming with one simple goal:

“To raise honest, nourishing food the way we believe it should have been all along.”

Life on the farm follows the seasons.

Moving hens onto fresh pasture,
rotating cattle through paddocks,
caring for the land and
producing food for local families
has become part of the rhythm of everyday life.

We’re not trying to build the biggest farm.

We simply want to raise food well.

Because good farming should work with nature, not against it.

And because every family deserves food they can trust.
